Banjo the Bunny

This morning, we awoke to a dead rabbit. Well, not really. He wasn't laying on our bed or anything. He wasn't the first thing we saw when we woke up. You know what I mean.....

Camryn has been on Banjo duty for the summer. She is in charge of water and food. This morning I was watering plants on the deck and she came around the corner of the garage and announced, "Banjo didn't drink any of his water, I think he's dead." I asked her why she thought he was dead and her reply was, "Because he's just laying there and he has flies all over him."

And yes, he was dead. The kids and I had a very lovely burial service for the old boy. Caedmon, who was the one who caught Banjo in the rabbit scramble at the fair, said a few words but was quickly distracted by a cool looking bug a few feet away. Nate wasn't able to be there. You know, work and everything. So he wrote a wonderful little tribute to our deceased rabbit. Bring the Kleenex, it's a real tear jerker.

Banjo, you will be missed.

I'm sorry about Banjo.

Your husband is very clever. I felt guilty for giggling at his song, though.

I'd have tears in my eyes if I didn't suspect that on some level you're making fun of my Barry.

But seriously, quite sweet. We had a hermit crab funeral last week and understand the trauma well.

That was HILARIOUS!!! Your DH's song that is...not the actual passing of Banjo....

Time to get another bunny! Or, how about a HAMSTER!!! I wonder how long a hamster would last when Owen and Ethan come over to play and all four boys are taking turns "holding" him.

Poor Banjo. My husband makes remarks sometimes about how our dog will be old and dying right about the time our future child/children are old enough to really be devasted by the loss of a pet. He says we'd be better off if we shot her or gave her away right now before the kids come. He's totally kidding, of course. I think.

Banjo's purpose on earth was complete. He brought joy to 7 out of 8 people. He taught you many lessons and entertained the neighbors as well. I think they secretly let him out and ran back to their windows to watch Nate crawl under the bushes....
