Today after church we head out for vacation at the lake.
Suitcases? Check
Jet skis? Check
Annual day-before-vacation emotional meltdown? Check
Am I the only mother who is overwhelmed by the amount of work it takes to get ready for relaxation? Every year I question the sanity of even going when the preparation stresses me out so much. There is always so much grumbling and crying and gnashing of teeth, and that's not the kids that's me. Bless Nate's heart, he has come to expect it and does an amazing job waiting it out and enduring the Heth until I finally come around and we roll out of the driveway, beach bound.
It's all worth it, laying on a floaty in the crystal clear water, soaking up the sun.
Adios! I'll be at the beach.

I feel you! We just got back to ID from our annual vacation to northern MN. Our kids were in a wedding, we camped, spent time at the lake, hiked, etc. Our poor van is going to sit for a week, and so are we! I pray that you have an awesome and mostly stress-free vacation!
A few years back a girlfriend and I went to Berlin for a long weekend and as we walked to the terminal from the carpark she stopped and started laughing. I asked her why and she "This is the first time in 20 years I have packed for myself!" it set the tone for the rest of our trip - what happens in Berlin .....
I meant "packed JUST for myself" !

you're definitely not the only one!!! for some reason I think I need to do my spring cleaning the week before we leave for the beach and then there's keeping the condo clean while we're at the beach to make sure we get our deposit back. I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

I think the meltdown is standard equipment for vacation preparation. At least the strees level that makes us think it would just be easier to stay home....
And then you get in the car and head down the road and slowly exhale and realize you really did want to go after all.

Oh man, I go nuts. Mr. Muscles and the kids know to stay outta my way the day (or two) before we head on a trip.
I get so stressed about getting everything packed, double check what the kids have packed and making the house look perfect before we leave. Aaaarrrggghhh!
