"My name is not Jose Eber
I will not cut my siblings' hair."
Yesterday Jack and Gemma were playing splendidly together. I peeked in at them to make sure there were no permanent markers, toothpaste, or duct tape being used. Nope, they were good. They were playing kitchen, gnawing on brightly colored, lead-free, wooden pieces of canned goods and pizza. Fun times.
Somewhere in the next three minutes, "kitchen" turned into "Jack's Fantastic Hair Salon". They brought me a ponytail, now unattached. I stood there slack jawed and let reality set in, counting to ten, twenty, and wisely, even higher in my mind. Then I reacted. I was torn between laughing and crying. To tell you the truth, I don't even remember how I reacted. I do know that I grumbled under my breath about big sisters who like to do crafts but leave scissors laying around. It's not like this hasn't happened before.
It was too late for speeches. The damage was done. Gemma now had a full blown mullet of all mullets. Billy Ray's true daughter, at least in the spirit of hair-dos. Her hair had been pulled up in the front into two cute little pigtails, the back still down. One of those pigtails was now completely gone. To the scalp. Jack joked about her "bald spot". Not funny Jack.
She wore a hat for the rest of the day.
This morning I took her to Dawn who worked a hair miracle on poor, poor Gemma's head. It is adorable. She saved the day. Gemma's got a cute little stacked bob with the hair tucked behind her ear on one side and the illusion of tucked hair on the other. You can tell something isn't quite right but you really have to look hard to see the bald spot.
Pictures?
Oh, ok. You twisted my arm.
Was there any doubt that I would have pictures?

Oh Heather..... Yikes on the ponytail but can I say just how adorable she looks with her new haircut?
The haircut is great. I cannot believe it was saved so well. What a cutie. This has not happened in our house yet but I hate to even mention that.
no picture of the smile on Jack's face?
I just cried from laughing so hard...is that bad?
That pic of her with her mullet, and the expression on her face...cutest thing ever :)
Her new haircut is so cute! Dawn is a miracle worker!
I'm loving the new hairstyle, not so much the reason for it.
and just when i thought precious Gemma could not get cuter!! awwwww super cute hair, sorry for the circumstance lets think positive here....hmmm...i am thinking--ok, i got it...better Gemma's sweet blonde hair than say...Toby's ear..NOW THAT WOULD BE BAD and not easily fixed with a CUTE haircut...that would call for lots of plastic surgery and let's face it, hair grows back...ears do not.
You're welcome ;-)
OK I had no idea you had a blog - more time for me to spend on the computer! Thanks! LOL - your stylist is genius. She looks so cute. but that was a doozy. yikes.
Did you save the pony? I'm so glad you have a chic hairdresser who does adorable cuts.
Oh my! Those little stinkers! Her hair was salvaged beautifully. She looks adorable.
oh my goodness, i laughed so hard i cried. i love, love, love gemma's new style, though.
I love your posts - they make me smile and laugh! great save mom the new haircut really is cute!
They brought me a ponytail...
HAHAHAHAHA!
but Dawn did such a great job on Gemma's hair, it's darling!
oh bless your heart! your a better mom than me, seriously, because I would have screamed my head off!!!!! after the shock, and the new "do" I really do like it!!!! it looks very very cute on her! So glad you had a miracle stylist to run to! I think the pictures "before" the new haircut were so shocking to me, because I can SOOO see one of my kids doing this LOL.
I love her new cut. Kids really know how to have fun!
What a doll she is- the mullet could totally be pulled of as Caedmon with a new do! Dawn did awesome- and she is so cute with a little bob!
I am so sorry I couldn't help but laugh. We just recently went through this with my little guy. He decided to give himself a haircut on the front of his head and we had to totally shave him, skin head style! Your daughers new look is adorable and trendy! Stylists can work miracles that for sure, I am living proof!
"Ray's true daughter, at least in the spirit of hair-dos" - hilarious, Heth! Dawn did a great job, and Gemma is still cute as a button. This story between Jack and Gemma will never be forgotten!
Oh my word!! I would like to think I'd have stayed calm, but no, I'd probably have screamed my head off and spent the rest of the day ranting and raving and fanatically waving my arms and banging my head against the wall. Ellie has cut her hair TWICE, but she did it so nicely - it was kind of underneath another layer, so we can hide, esp. when we put in the two ponytails like Gemma had. Your hairdresser did an amazing salvage job. I will remember this should I ever be presented with a ponytail in hand.
We've been down this road several times except my kids did it to themselves.
She is still Coleman's #1 girl :)
Wow. Lucky you were able to get that fixed. It seems kids love the new "play salon" thing because my oldest just cut her bangs, but the way she cut it you don't even notice, thank heaven for that, but then I was petting my cat one day and noticed rivets in his fur. I was like, what the...I pet him and noticed huge chunks were white and not grey anymore. She decided to give our cat Cracker Jack a hair cut. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. But I did end up laughing in the end, especially when I saw my cat...
Why did it have to be the girl?? My son cut my daughters hair a few years ago too!! Oh the emotions as I saw her beautiful blonde hair on the floor!! Gemma's new haircut is adorable though!
YESSSSSSSS! A true child of the 80's.
LOL. Sorry.
I think she looks really cute with her new 'do!
Oh the haircut is absolutely adorable though!! Maybe it was worth it!
I have to say that it looks adorable on her, and that i love it. I had my sister Shera cute my hair, same kind of thing right. I even liked the mullet.
sorry...i'm totally laughing! my amelia cut her entire front of bangs off...down to the scalp...she wore stretchy head bands for MONTHS. no stylist could even fix it...it was that bad. Your stylist worked wonders...Gemma new do is adorable. But you guys coulda brought the mullet back. Gemma's cute enough and up to the task, i believe. You have always been a trend setter...so you shoulda brought the mullet back via Gemma!
I love Jack! ;)
oh my gosh!i felt bad that i was laughing but i loved how you wrote it! it has happened a few times at our house too...Ian just recently cut his own hair while he was supposed to be napping...he now has a buzz. oh my!
and Gemma's haircut is ADORABLE!!
Cute as a bug's ear! but I won't tell Jack...Wish I would've seen her this morning.
Oh, she is adorable! No mug shot of the perp?
