In my last post, I eluded to the fact that the morels are popping up all over the place. We did our fair share of hunting this weekend. The kids had a great time exploring Grandpa and Grandma's woods. Caedmon managed to find a tiny little baby toad in a sea of undergrowth. He has toad radar; it's his super power. We scoured ever square inch of their land, and came home with a delicious bounty. We love to eat them floured with a bit of salt and pepper and fried up in a whole lot of butter. Mmmmm. We came home full and happy. But we did not come home alone. We were followed. As soon as I saw the first tick on Camryn, my skin started crawling. The ticks love Camryn, she seems to get more than everyone else. She pulls them off herself, because she knows that I am TERRIFIED of them. I can handle spiders and other creepy crawly things, but ticks give me the heebie jeebies. It's not that I'm scared of Lyme's disease, maybe I should be. It's just that ewwww, I don't want some little bug crawling on me. So here's how the terror went down. After being in the woods all evening Saturday, we came home and put the kids to bed. As I was stepping into bed myself, my tick radar kicked in. (It's MY super power) Right there, on the floor beside my bed was a tiny brown bug. *shudder* Of course I freaked out and refused to sleep in my bed. Nate was on the computer in the family room, so I decided to sleep on the futon. I'm laying there, feeling all creepy crawly, but I finally begin to doze off. Suddenly, out of the clear blue sky, a tick drops onto my temple. I was about to barf I was so freaked out. Just ask Nate, I was on the verge of tears.

I searched for this fun little photo to show you all what the blood sucking bringers-of-death look like. Can you even imagine how hard it was for me to look at fifty images of these little terrors? Again, EWWW!
I'm going to bed now. Pray for me.

I hate those things too! We had them so bad one year you couldn't walk out to the mail box without bringing in one of those hideous hitch hikers. My worst bug fear is of camel crickets, though. *****shudder*******
I have battled lice this weekend -- I completely understand feeling as if bugs are crawling on you at all times. My skin is crawling, too.
Will "Off!" keep ticks away? I honestly don't know, but I would sure cover myself in something before that little hike!
Wow, can't say I've ever had any experience with ticks. I'm with you-ewww! I hope you got some sleep last night anyway. I've also never had the fun of hunting down those mushrooms, sounds divine. You enjoy the beautiful weather! (Minus the ticks.)
EWWWWW! I hate ticks, too. I rememeber nightly "tick check" during the summer months as a kid. I would try to pull them out myself 'cuz I didn't want my dad to get the lighter out.
That tick picture is out of control. I don't think I've ever had one, but I'd probably react in a similar manner.
WHAT IN THE HECK ARE TICKS DOING FOLLOWING YOU...I am so grossed out...seriously grossed out as my husband just told me that if their head gets stuck in you the spot can get infected...you have to FORCE them to come out of your skin...IM SOOOOOO GROSSED OUT...seriously scared of bugs...i have the heebeejeebies right now...oh my word he just said take a hot bath and they come out too, but you have to be watching for them....SHUTUP i am naked in the tub what if they decide to latch on somewhere else...HELLOOO IM NAKED...ok ok im so grossed out...thank you for my daily grossing out and Ill be praying you have a supernatural protection from ticks...like bubble wrap...hehehe
i can remember as a kid having one attached to my skin- that's the worse! i feel bad for sarah- we battled lice 2-3 years ago and it was aweful! i checked maja's head for months, totally paranoid.
can you imagine living in conditions were bugs and parasites are just part of life? we have got it so good!
I hate ticks too. Just gross things. I do like morrels though - just like you make them. Yummy
I once had a bloated tick on my head. I was brushing my hair and the brush kept hitting something. I asked my mom to look and there it was. Ack. Eww. Shiver. I've never quite gotten over it.
I HATE TICS. MORE THAN ANYTHING. I grew up with them constantly, we lived next to a wheat field, and woods and a pond in the country. YUCK!
Just looking at that picture gave me a chill up my spine. Ugghh.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwww......
You are hilarious! Is this the little girl that picked up bugs like your boys do worms?? I don't remember when ticks became a phobia...did I traumatzie you at some point? But aren't the mushrooms so worth braving the tick invested woods for?!!
Tanya- I feel the same way.
Chili- Ewww. Barf, gag, faint.
Q-tip- Great. We brought all of our clothes right into the house and they sat in the laundry room for a day or so. I may have to move.
Adonai Jedi- I can't take credit, I think my Mom took that pic. She has mad photo skillz.
Heth! Your comment back to Mom about having to move LOL I'm dying laughing!!! But you know I'd feel the same way if it was spiders.
i can't believe you looked at all those pictures - um ... just for us. ...thanks
