How to Get Fired As Family Chef

I can feel the tension. A revolt is coming. I sense an uprising in the works. If I serve my family soup one more time, violence is going to erupt at the dinner table.

Remember this? Which resulted in this. Now that was some good times.

What is my problem? When will I learn? My family is not adventurous when it comes to food. Last night I served a culinary delight. I loved it. I don't think anyone else did. "Spicy African Yam Soup" We played a game called "guess the ingredients". I was surprised that they eventually got them all. Even the peanut butter. The looks of disgust on their faces silently screamed, "Soup is no place for peanut butter. It belongs on bread with globs of grape jelly."

Maybe I need to make a mid-March resolution resembling that of Gretchen's. Check out #82 on her list of Things She Will NOT Do In 2008. Only mine would read "serve soup more than three times a month."

Whenever they ask what is for supper, they are crossing their fingers that it will not be broth based. Or involve chili beans and tomato sauce. Or need to be eaten with a spoon. One thing I have found is that there seems to be more grace if there are crackers on the table. Crackers save the day.

Help me break out of my soup rut. Ideas?

Check out the roated chicken and peppers recipe on Joannes "Recipes4Me" blog. It is really good, not overwhelming, my kids loved it. You could probably do it in the crockpot even.

Don't forget the bean and cheese sandwiches

Take comfort. It is almost salad season, and you'll be sliding plates of leafy greens in front of their little noses every night.

I am so proud of my spaghetti record. Twice in January, ONCE in February, ONCE (so far) in March!

I've found a lot of amazing recipes at this blog:

http://www.noblepig.com/

They seem simple, too. I am dying to make the latest recipe she posted.

Oh my goodness - you do have some picky eaters! LOL My family loves savory dishes with peanut butter. One of our favorites is a spicy thai noodle dish with a peanut butter sauce! YUM. Nataliesrecipes.com is a good place to look too.

Oh man, I love soup. My kids, like yours, love crackers. LOL. I also love peanut butter on noodley dishes! Mmmm...

So I guess what I'm saying is, I'm no help to you. Except in the sympathy department. I WISH somebody would fire me!

savingdinner.com - try the sample menus.

My friends and family pray that it won't have the word "chilli" in it. They love my soups though. I've been working in lentils and barley. Both have been HUGE hits.

Well, I can offer up a nice burrito/taco night and my family loves it. They also love sandwich night with chips and pickles. I have to say that I have resorted to chili too much these days. Last night we had fish, rice, and veggies. I'm not much help when it comes to preparing meals.

I agree with your family members. Peanut butter goes on sandwiches, not in soup. :)

it's pretty boring over here...I resorted to anything fast and easy.

allrecipes.com - I love it! I can put in the ingredients I have on hand, and it will come up with recipes that use those ingredients. I've got a binder full of recipes from that site.
