Dryer Diving

My dryer has slowly started to take it's precious time drying our clothes. It's been a fabulous slave of mine, I work it very hard. It was time to crack the whip.

This morning I used muscles I didn't even know I had and I pulled and tugged on the dryer until it was spun completely around and away from wall. I had Noelle, who is about two inches wide, squeeze back there and start pulling things out from behind while I took the vent tube off and started digging for wayward lint. Good times.

Our spoils included 24 hangers that were playing hooky behind the dryer. We have a dowel hanging above the washer and dryer and I hang all shirts up there. It is just out of reach of the children so when they want a shirt to wear (since we never put laundry away), they yank on the sleeve of the shirt until it comes down, sending the hanger flying. All hangers have been retrieved.

I dug out enough lint to a stuff a small throw pillow. Now there's a craft for a lazy summer afternoon. Lint Pillows.

Switching to an unrelated topic, or so you would think, here is a picture I took last fall of our new sand box.

We were going for a natural look. We strategically planted big boulders to keep the sand contained and I planted lots of perennials around the boulders. It doesn't look so sparse this summer, the plants have all grown and filled in, it really looks great. The kids love to bring small rocks and leaves and sticks to the sandbox to make little "meals" and various other interesting concoctions. Now notice the small white box at the top of the photo. You see where I'm going with this don't you?

Sand. There was plenty of sand present in the ventilation tube. And also three golf ball sized rocks. I'm honestly surprised that is all I found stuffed down the hole. I fully expected to find a half eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Now I am enjoying the quiet hum of my newly cleaned out dryer. Dry away little buddy. And I can rest in the peace of mind that our house is not going to go up in flames due to a rock/lint stuffed dryer vent. Because those are the things I worry about.

Hoo, boy! That is just too funny. I think I would have expected a half eaten PJ too. I got a good laugh out of this post too.

I tagged you. You can check my blog to see the rules if you want. But if you don't want to go along, that's fine with me. I just had to tag some people, and I have a small friends list, but you were on it, so I tagged you.

In reply to your comment on my post, it was 10 years ago. My fifth birthday. Thanks for saying my list was fun to read.

That was funny! I can completely relate, who else has to consider positioning of the dryer vent when putting in a new sand box? Definitely a must at my house. My dryer also hosts an amazing amount of debris every 6 months or so when I check. When my slave starts lagging. Glad to hear that you are back in business.

Your photo today is so similar to ones I posted today. Sorta scary! Thanks for the smiles.

I love the sandbox - very natural looking. I am still loathe to put a sandbox in because I don't want all that stuff in my house. The sand that is. Since we live in Phoenix and have desert (read "rock") landscaping, I get plenty of rocks in pockets

Too funny! I want to have a discussion with our builders about the way our dryer line as well as plumbing lines were run in our house. Apparently EVERYONE involved in building our house were of the male species and did not hae a wife to contemplate the placing of said lines...our dryer line runs almost the entire width of our home...sigh...no one ever said builders were brilliant...I just had a little more confidence than they deserve in our little world! :)

Love the post! I had to get Mr. Muscles to do that about 5 months ago. Ewwww!
Love the sandbox, too. We take trips to the park on Library Day and always bring home about 3 buckets of sand home with us. It gets EVERYWHERE!

I worry about the lint thing as well. I am sure that it kills precious brain cells worrying about things like that, but do I stop? No, sirree! My dryer and I have a love/hate relationship. If someone moves it one inch, then it doesn't like to dry on the first time. I move it out one more inch and it dries in its allotted time. It makes me crazy!

Ok that's funny because I too have a problem putting away my laundry, and like you I have a rod to hang it on. I have a laundry "closet" instead of room and we have a shower curtain rod laying across all the cabinet doors that are open above the washer/dryer. I end up just leaving them there most the time! LOL

A new business venture - lint pillows! Another great post. :)

I think I need to do that and see if my dryer will actually start drying again. I gave it a long break when it started squealing really loud and stopping a few minutes into the load. But then I really wanted a tiny little girls shirt dryed in a hurry, so I gave it a whirl and it worked! Praise God! But it does actually DRY anything. It spins and it heats and it runs through the whole cycle, but it does not dry.
Maybe for kicks today we'll go digging in the vent pipes.

Baha! I thought that I was the only mother who lowered her child behind the dryer. I'm going to bed feeling vindicated in some way by this post. :) And he feels soooo important when I use him for that, too!

And our family, also never puts away the laundry. Our utility is a glorified family closet. However, I draw the line at people dressing in there.

Glad to see life is going well, and laundry with a new baby in the house is getting done!

Great sandbox idea - do you have cats or dogs though?? Our cats would love the giant litter box!

I'll have to remember never to put kids and toys and sand near a dryer vent.

Sorry ladies, but I would be remiss if I did not wag my finger at you over the lack of attention to putting away your laundry. Beds made, clothes washed, dried, folded AND put away!!! Please do not let my children/teens know that there are Moms out there that expect less. I would have a revolt to deal with and I am much too busy.
